Mutual Aid Hurricane Relief Efforts

Update Tuesday, Oct 23 2018

We're hearing a focus on remediation/recovery/repair from eastern NC people impacted by the Hurricanes this year. Cash donations or gift cards for places like Home Depot will be particularly useful. If you can bring things into one of our drop-off locations, an updated list of suggested items is available here. If you have specific relevant skills, such as doing electrical work or mold remediation, and you can travel to an impacted area, please let us know.

Hurricane Florence:
In Chapel Hill/Carrboro/Durham, thanks to our needs/capability inventory, we were able to rescue one cat and help a family find a place to stay when the public shelter wasn't meeting their needs.

Working with a wonderful collection of like-minded people from around the Triangle and some donated warehouse space (see https://www.maddistronc.org) we've been able to send what isn't needed here out to Lumberton, Seven Springs, Red Springs, Dudley, New Bern (and areas north of New Bern), Jacksonville, Aurora, Snow Hill, Burgaw, Leland, Shallotte, Rowland, Dunn, and Roseboro.

Hurricane Michael:
A donated chainsaw came in handy locally after the heavy winds in central NC, but of course the worst is in FL. Some volunteers headed to Florida have requested items from our Distro, and tonight we got a big load of donated material from Charlottesville and Boone, NC, some of which is marked for delivery further south.
